B'day Bash! - a follow up.

One of our senior sangamites Muthumani a.k.a Sangamuthu celebrated his birthday last week.

Here's a followup on that...

We (those who attended the treat ;)) owe him a big thanks for the excellent treat he gave us in 'The Cascade', a pretty decent restaurant in Anna Nagar. It is becoming one of the hang out place for sangamites and also it has few heart melting associations with some of our sangamites - a topic for another blog post ;)

Anyways, back to the point... I'm sharing few photographs of our dude cutting the cake... Location - The Cascade, Anna Nagar.

SaNGaM what its all about

Hi there,
Howz it going,
First of all, Happy Birthday Sanga Muthu!

This is the overseas member of sangam. As this is my first blog i try to recollect the days on how this sangam got formed. I dont remember any specific date to point....it all started for fun, group of guyz joinning hands and started doing activities against the anti-social elements in our org. Prime activity as i would remember is going against or commenting about anti-socialist in a org ....i believe most of us know who are anti-socialist in an org they r our manaters......u know they do things which are un-imaginable and deserves comments( use the resource effectively by pluging cables....hitting the scratch).........Later the same group was named as Sangam and Sangam was born. I miss all those days of fun now. And now i wonder whether those kind of activities are still going on.......I believe its there because we still have managers to manage us....and things like recommeding everyone for the same award.....onsite are going on........

Thats all about past......now in the blogs, i see movie reviews written saying "Sangam Verdict" Our lad has written, and i believe its not sangams verdict thats its our lads verdict......i would say if a group of sanmites give a single review then it really means that is "Sangams Verdict" I saw the movie and i liked it......the movie is really Kkhhool.........

Am giving a "pradhu against our lad" to sangam thalaivar to look into this issue.
I request thalaivar to address this issue with top priority.

Sivaji - Paera kaettaodane chumma athiruthu illa!!

That is the power, charisma and energy of our laudable super star Rajnikanth. This must give you a clue that I'm biased towards Rajni. Anyways, this is my first attempt on a movie review and I'll try my best to retrospect my experience, likes and dislikes about the movie. Here we go...

Until yesterday, Super star Rajnikanth was a magical word in Tamil Nadu, but now it is all over the world. The media is going haywire about the movie and so is his fans. Shankar, the most successful masala movie maker (in my opinion) and AVM Saravanan, a veteran producer of tamil cinema, join their hands together to make this historical, record breaking movie so called 'Sivaji - The Boss'.

The movie is about a NRI who comes back to his own land with loads of money and a heart full of ambition. He wishes to start FREE educational institutions for the 'yezhai' people and do good for them. But in his way stands the 'King Maker' Adhiseshan, a business tycoon and a brawny. Then, it is the story of the hero who was tarnished in the battle, comes up like a pheonix and pays back the baddies in style. Phew! just like that...

May be I'm oversimplifying, but it has more action, comedy, romance, revenge, sentiments and Style, style and more style. It was a real treat for the thalaivar fans to watch him rock on the screen.

The comedy sequences, accompanied by Vivek were really funny. Its definitely a break through for him to regain his place...

AR Rehman has already hit the charts with the album couple of months back. Now its Shankar's turn to make it a visual treat. He gets through the task with distinction. I liked the song 'Athiradee' and the way it is picturized. It has the kind of Rajni that I would like to watch. The thala introduction (in a Harleys...) in the song... ooohh amazing... I just couldn't resist but enjoy. The best song ever picturized for Rajnikanth... Shankar has raised the bar for the directors who wants to cast our super star in their movie.

Rajni and style is synonymous, the way he walks, talks, fights... everything has a uniqueness to it and most importantly a credibility. Sivaji has all of this in a right mix so that you dont get a overdose of it. The way he talks on the phone and utters those simple words 'Coool' and 'Boss' is mesmerizing. I just replied saying 'Coool buddy' when somebody asked me how the movie was... The way he hits the chewing gum in his palm and it bounces back to his mouth (there is lotsa variations in it too...), the way he puts his glasses, wow this man is full of energy.

There is romance and but it doesn't hitch. Shreya is beautiful in the movie and more glamorous (read hot!!!) in the songs. She has done a good job and lends out a decent performance in the final part. Who would care about the heroines in a super star movie... Its always a 'one man show', right! ;)

The photography is just awesome, especially in the songs sequences, accompanied by the marvelous sets designed by Thotta Tharani, is a visual delight. KV Anand, the man behind the camera gets the angles right and cuts our super stars age by 20 years... and special kudos for the make up man and the hair stylists for getting the appropriate look and wig for our super star... awesome costumes designed by Manish Malhotra... Thalaivar rocks in that blue denim suite...

Finally comes the 'Mottai Boss', who calls himself MGR :)... It is still more ravishing when he tells it with a sarcastic smile 'Naan Sivaji illada... M.G.R...'. The final 40 minutes is super cool, thalaivar like the Neo in Matrix... what else should I say... all against gravity... special effects... with currencies flying all around (Ironically, that scene somehow reminded me of the producers of this film...)

Double thumbs up for diehard Rajni fans and not-so-interested fans.

Before finishing, I just wanted to remind you guys that it is not a director's movie, so dont complain if its not upto the Cannes, Oscar standards. I agree that Shankar has to still work a lot to prove him as a good director. That doesn't mean that this is a bad movie. Shankar could've gone over board with super star and the budget, but it needs maturity and a sense of ownership to craft a sensible, balanced product out of it. (Dont ever tell me Perarasu could do it, and this is a kinda budget and casting where the creaters easily go haywire and mess the whole thing up. A living example is Kamal Hassan and his Aalavandan. He had never overcome the formula overhype == flopshow. So think...)

But being said all that, one thing that irks me is the budget for this movie... I frankly dont know if Eighty Cee (80 Crores) is really justified. Never mind, people are ready to bet more on this man... and he wins the BO single handedly with Style.

(Oops, didnt knew it would grow this long, better I stop here!!)

Sivaji – The (Mottai) Boss

Yesterday I watched the movie in Pondicherry, entered the theatre with high expectation. But my tolerance is tested by the duo Shankar and Rajini in the first half. Like every Shankar film this too has good theme of bringing out the Black money from Business king pins. Our Superstar doing Robin Hood job for converting Black money into white money, helping people in education and medicine.

In the second half movie gears up after rajini starts his revenge over Suman. Movie has good scenes in patches here and there. Like Rajini imitating MGR, Sivaji and Kamal and MOTTAI Rajini scenes, trying to get approval and sancation from the Govt offiicals.

Shankar did lots of hard work in showing rajini as young laid (Successful in it), in wasting money for songs like Ballaelakha, Style and Athiradi song. (Dai adthuvaen Kasuna istathuku Selavu pannuivia) he is unsuccessful to get best steps in dance.

Mothathil ithu ore Perarusu Movie, Not Shankar Movie.

Two things keep in mind

1) Are u going for Rajini Masala Movie ? – Yes
2) Are u going for Shankar Movie ? – No

My Verdict(**1/2)

Better to watch in Online or VCD.

Pluses:

1) AR. Rahaman Music
2) K.V Ananad
3) Rajini Make up and Costumes.

Minuses:
1) Shankar
2) Choreographers for Ballaelakha
3) First Half
4) Rajini Dance steps
